Birding News - February 2004
Every year from February to April (following good rainfalls) our guests at White Elephant are blessed with the incredible sight of "thousands and thousands" of Redbilled Quelea's nesting in localised areas of Knob and Belly thorn trees along the shores of Lake Jozini in the Pongola Game Reserve.
Burchall's Coucal
On Thursday 9 September 2004, round about 16h00, whilest travelling on the way back from Pongola to White Elephant in the Pongola Game Reserve South, we spotted a 'albinistic' Burchall's Coucal, flying across the N2 where it crosses the Pongola River.
Flying For Africa visits White Elephant
Michael Fay, the well known conservationist and researcher from the World Conservation Society, is doing a 15 month long low level aerial transect across Africa transversing every major eco-region on the continent.

Since the tragic loss of one of the Hyena cubs last October (as a result of injuries sustained by a train or vehicle), hyena sightings have been rare.
